How did Facebook fail democracy?

Facebook didn’t invent the selfie but it made it a household word. Now, we’re looking at the social network we’ve given our lives to for a decade and wondering if we’ll ever trust it again. Alexis Madrigal at The Atlantic describes what Facebook did to American democracy as “many threads of a huge story woven together.” Here’s my response on HuffPost.
